For Parents
First Visit Tips
A little preparation goes a long way. Here is how to set your child up for a positive first experience at Just Kids Dental.
Before the Visit
- Use positive, simple language: sleepy air, count teeth, brush and tickle
- Avoid words like shot, needle, drill, pull, or pain
- Read a fun book about the dentist together
- Let them bring a comfort item (stuffed animal, blanket)
- Keep it matter-of-fact, not a big event
First-Visit Word Swap
Use: sleepy air, picture, count teeth, brush & tickle, sugar bugs
Avoid: shot, needle, drill, pain, pull, hurt
Keep it positive. Never use the dentist as a warning or punishment.
During the Visit
- We will go at your child's pace. No rushing.
- Tell-show-do: we explain, demonstrate, then treat
- Parents are welcome in the treatment area
- Stickers, prizes, and high-fives at the end
What to Bring
